195 Teams from 102 Universities throughout Korea participated in this competition, held from August 16 through August 18 at Saemangeum Vehicle Racecourse.

AMG Club comprised and participated in the competition with 11 current students in School of Mechanical and Control Engineering, one graduated student as a mentor, thereby creating 3rdGeneration Self-Made Electric Vehicle to succeed in advancing to the Semi-Finals. AMG Club was awarded the Mechanical Award, given to the team that showed a creative idea by shrinking the vehicle size and materializing vehicle based upon computerized definition.

Handong Global University first participated in the electric vehicle sector of Self-Made Car Competition in 2017, receiving an incentive award by using POSCO-made car frame comprised of magnesium alloy, and finally receiving Bronze Award by deriving an idea to enhance capacity of battery by using Ultra Capacitor. Especially, AMG Club received big help in using factory from Chairman Jung-keun Park of STC Corporation, a Camping Car repairing company located nearby.

Professor Jong-sun Lee from HGU’s School of Mechanical and Control Engineering, the guiding professor to the AMG Club, said, “It is an invaluable experience and know-how students receive in the fields of Mechanical Engineering Techniques and Mechanical Software Utilization by participating in Capstone Design Program during the semester, designing the vehicle, and ultimately finishing the vehicle during the two-month long Club Camp during the vacation, which cannot be earned simply by regular Undergraduate Program of the University.” He also said that, “It is a great record in finishing the full course without a breakdown of the vehicle like that of two previous competitions with a fast lap time and thereby advancing to semi-finals is a huge achievement. Also, we are looking forward to possibly advancing to finals in which final four teams compete if we train the driver enough by finding the best possible driving techniques by computer simulation.” Also, Professor Lee wanted to thank the support of HGU’s LINC+ Group and Ministry of Education for being able to build a vehicle and participating in the competition.
