(Photo 1) The 3rd ‘V.I.C. Research Project’ for High School Students
The launching ceremony of the third ‘V.I.C. Research Project’ by Handong Global University (president Soon-Heung Chang), POSTECH (president Moo-Hwan Kim), and Pohang City (mayor Kang-Deok Lee) was held at the All Nations Hall in Handong on the 7thSeptember.
Yang-Gyu Je, professor at Handong Global University, Kyu-Yeol Jeong, Dean of Academic Affairs at POSTECH, Kyung-Sun Kim from the Innovation Center for Educationat POSTECH, and In-Soon Shin, chairman of Gyeongbuk Province Career and Admissions Conference for Teachers, high school and university students participating in this project attended the launching ceremony.
A total of 104 students from nine high schools in Pohang and twenty seven high schools in Gyeong-ju, Yeong-cheon, Seoul and Gyeong-gi participated in the V.I.C. research project, and 45 students from Handong University and POSTECH participated as mentors.
The V.I.C. research project is the first research project for high school students in South Korea, which encourages high school students to develop creative problem-solving skills while students discover and solve problems on their own with the help of undergraduate and graduate student mentors.It also helps high school students discover their talents and aptitude and find dreams and visions.
The results of the third V.I.C. research project will be announced on 9thJanuary, along with the Handong University President Award and POSTECH President Award, as well as the Gyeongsangbuk-doProvincial Governor Award and Pohang Mayor Award. The results of the project will also be published in the Journal of Creative Convergence Studies for Youth (VIC Y) after review from experts.
Meanwhile, nine teams from three high schools in Pohang participated in the first V.I.C. research project that began in September last year, and Pohang Jang-Seong High School won the Grand Prize (Handong University President Award). In addition, 18 teams from eight high schools in Pohang participated in the second V.I.C. research project and won the Pohang Mayor Award along with the Grand Prize (Handong University President Award, POSTECH President Award).
