President of Yangon Technological University in Myanmar Mint Thane and Head Professor of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering Department Nin Tie Da Ai visited Handong Global University from November 11th to 15th.
President Min Thane and Professor Nin Tie Da Ai, Professor Myo Mint and Professor Han gave a special lecture on mechanical and electronic engineering and Myanmar to 56 students attending the course “Introduction to Spatial Design and Theory” in Handong.
In addition, Computer and Electronic Engineering Department Professor Whan-Ki Yong, Professor Keum-Young Sung and Mechanical and Control Engineering Department Professor Jae-Young Lee had meetings over two times to discuss areas in which HGU and Yangong Technological University can cooperate with each other, strengthening ties between the two institutions.
On the 13th of November, there was a discussion held to seek out further cooperation between the two institutions such as joint research program among professors and other joint program in the future. President Chang asked Yangon Technological University professors for support as HGU will establish a graduate school for doctoral programs and invites students from developing countries. In response to President Chang’s idea, President Mint Thane positively affirmed his idea.
President Mint Thane remarked, “We’re very grateful that HGU has consistently visited Yangon Technological University on every vacation for education program ICT application, and 4th Industrial Revolution as we requested. We have come to better understand Korea as we visit Korea, learn and experience Korean history and cultures,” and he added, “It was a meaningful experience to visit an institution like Handong with great interests in developing countries. I am hoping for deeper level of trust between HGU and Yangon Technological University and exchange programs to come.”
Meanwhile, HGU plans to host BIM camp as a part of UNESCO UNITWIN Curriculum at Yangon Technological University in this coming March, 2020.
*UNESCO UNITWIN (UNITWIN, University Twinning, and Networking) is a program created by UNESCO in 1992 aimed to support universities in developing countries through networks with universities and research institutes in developing countries, reducing the knowledge gap and developing countries' ability to stand on their own feet. Handong Global University was designated as the first UNITWIN University in Korea (2007).
* In addition, Handong University is the first university designated to send interns to OECD (2008), UN ACADEMIC IMPACT University designation (2011), the designation of a United Nations-funded library management college (2014), University to hold United Nations NGO Conference (2016), newly opened UNAI Ban Ki-moon Global Education Center (IGE) (2019), etc, accelerating internationalization.
