Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) received A-level (the highest grade) from the first Innovation Supporting Project for Universities supervised by the Ministry of Education.

HGU was also awarded the title of "Small but Strong Local University," with having less than 5,000 enrolled students. HGU will receive extra incentives for being selected with an A-level and as a"Small but Strong Local' university. This will lead to the school obtaining a 36% increase in budget.

This assessment is the result of education specialisation that HGU has been carrying forward. Especially, HGU had the project goal of 'Fostering talented people who identify problems and solve them in the right ways.'  The school conducted 31 sub-programs in 11 major programs. These are excellent for university innovation under the goal:

▲Activating Free-Learning Semester ▲Solving problems of academic-industrial collaboration-type based on a test field on campus ▲10 Research Projects led by Students, etc.

The assessment committee of the Project evaluated HGU as such: "We were able to identify excellent cases in program management and results in HGU. There is a necessity to promote it as a role model that would contribute to other universities and local communities. In particular, the school's effort to promote creative convergence and support research projects to enhance undergraduate students' problem-solving abilities is outstanding."

Soon-Heung Chang, the president of HGU, said, "Through the evaluation result, I believe we are acknowledged by the government with the direction of our university education in this "new normal generation" after COVID-19. This is the result of constant educational innovation required by the generation, and the dedication of our school members. With the increased budget, we will prepare for the education after COVID-19, that is available outside of the limitation of time and space. Through this, we will build a stable education system, specialised in our strength; empowering students in problem-solving."

Meanwhile, HGU has been publically acknowledged with their educational outcomes. Recently, the school has been selected as 'Support Project for the Contributing Universities for the Normalisation of High School Education 2020,' and received an A grade for the follow-up management assessment of 'PRogram for Industrial Needs - Matched Education (PRIME) Operation.'
