Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) held the ‘UNESCO UNITWIN International Developmental Collaboration Camp’ from 22nd to 25th of June.
As a part of UNESCO UNITWIN project, the camp is for the freshmen and enrolled students of Handong Global University to allow students to learn about major and international developmental collaboration, and conduct team activities. Ten faculty members and field experts from various majors, including Graduate School of International Developmental Collaboration, School of International Studies, Language and Literature, School of Management and Economics, School of Law, School of Spatial Environment System Engineering, School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, School of Counseling Psychology and Social Welfare, and Kim Young Gil Grace School, participated in educating students about approaches towards international development from different angles. This also included areas in international development, collaborations with each major, and international development in Post-Corona era.
Students who were interested in international development in the Post-Corona era were given opportunities to learn from various major professors, to explore ways to collaborate international development and their majors through various activities.
In the opening ceremony, President Soon Heung Chang said “This camp will be an important opportunity for the students of Post Corona era to learn about the ‘Know-what’ to become the ‘First-Mover’ of new markets in the time of this global crisis.” And added “I Hope this camp will allow students to think about their major and international developmental collaboration, and the mission of the Post-Corona era.”
This camp invited Do Wook Kang (Class of 2001) of Mambo Sawasawa, who has been actively engaging in international development, to share the stories about the actual field, and teach how to draw problem trees.

About 150 students of Handong Global University participated in the camp, and about 75% were freshmen. This camp helped participating students choose their related majors and serve as a turning point for them to become global leaders by allowing them to experience and learn about different areas of international development and convergence.
The students were given the chance to think about global strategies after COVID-19 and explore ways to co-develop through international development in the time of this changing world with professors of different majors to become the global leaders of Post-Corona era. The camp was a place where the school motto “Learn and Share” was realized.
This camp took place while thoroughly following the guidelines of social distancing and the school manuals on COVID-19. Outstanding students during the camp will participate in programs with partner schools in developing countries of Handong Global University UNITWIN project as student assistants.
*UNITWIN (University Twining and Networking) was a program founded by UNESCO in 1992 with the aim to help developed countries’ network provide and support universities in developing countries with academic and research institutes to help reduce knowledge gaps and foster self-reliance. In Korea, Handong Global University was designated as the leading UNITWIN-sponsored university in 2007.
