Handong Global University Selected for the UniKorea Grand Program 2020

On the 30th of June, Handong Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (In-Ho Song, Professor of the School of Law as the head) was selected for the 'UniKorea Grant Program 2020' by the UniKorea Foundation as the program executing organisation.


The UniKorea Foundation (Byung-Hoon Ahn as the chairman) is the biggest NGO supporting foundation in the nation. The foundation supports many organisations that conduct various activities and research for the reunification of Korea through the 'UniKorea Grant Program.' It also keeps the civilian network for the reunification of Korea together.


From the 1st of September of this year until the 31st of August next year, Handong Institute for Peace and Reconciliation will conduct joint research in the fields of law, human rights, social welfare, and counselling for the women from North Korea, under the topic of 'Research for the improvement in the quality of life of female North Korean defectors for the reunification.'

 

(Photo 2) On the 26th of March 2018, HGU (Soon-Heung Chang as the President, the fourth from the left) concluded a cooperation agreement with UniKorea Foundation (Byung-Hoon Ahn as the Chairman, the third from the left) to proceed joint programs for the reunification.

 

△ North Korean legislation for women's rights, △ Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, the reality of North Korean women's rights and improvement plan, △ Career development of female North Korean defectors in South Korea,  △ Suggestions on narrowly tailored measures for the group program development for female youth North Korean defectors' psychological independence are the detailed research topics of this program.


 The Institute already conducted a 'research on North Korean children's rights' under the support of UniKorea Foundation in 2019. It ran a research project over disability rights in North Korea under the support of National Research Foundation of Korea from 2014 to 2017 and published the book <Disability Rights in North Korea Reflected on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities> in 2019 February.


 In-Ho Song, the Head of the Institute said: "the strength of Handong Institute of Peace and Reconciliation is that we run joint researches in various academic fields of law, counselling, social welfare, etc with  Professors from each field." and "we will continue our research on the socially disadvantaged class in North Korea."
