Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) a hosted Joint Training Course with MBA Course students from Tribhuvan University of Kathmandu, Nepal from June 30th ~ July 3rd, while Local Community Development Capability Strengthening Program was hosted for students from the Zavkhan region of Mongolia from July 7th onwards.
Both events were held on web and mobile platforms using a video conference tools.
Five professors, including Professor Ki-Sun Yoo of Handong Global University and Soo-Young Chang of POSTECH hosted the summer education program as part of the Joint Education Program with Tribhuvan University of Nepal on the topic of ‘Nepal’s Local Development for Social Innovation’.
This course is geared at the training of managemental talents and creation of sustainable socio-innovative institutions, with the consideration of the need in the establishment of unified education programs under a socio-economic and field –focused environment.
Students who have participated in this video seminar with the presence of all professors, discussed about the issues of Joint Education Programs so far and future operational plans for the development of the Education Program.
Professor Mahananda Chalice, Director of MBA Program at Tribhuvan University said, “It is glad that we are able to offer students an opportunity for education to continue their Social Innovation Projects through online despite COVID-19, and we hope to continue our cooperation with Professors at Handong Global University in operating field-focused Education Course.”

Professor Ki-Sun Yoo, in charge of the Joint Education Program with Nepal said, “We were able to confirm that education can continue through online tools even amid COVID-19. We hope to continue our cooperation for the development of Higher Education in Nepal with these experiences even in the online scenario.”
In addition, the Local Community Capability Strengthening Program’ has opened for the students of Zavkhan region in Mongolia. This is an education program to propose solutions for the sustainable travel in self-sustaining development upon regions of Mongolia. Handong Global University will continue with additional education programs in cooperation with University of Finance and Economics of Mongolia on July 20th~21st.
Handong Global University is fostering capability development in the developing countries through online methods in the situation where face-to-face activities with universities and governmental entities of such countries are limited due to COVID-19 by launching programs such as online lectures etc.
Furthermore, Handong Global University plans to speed up the movement in digitalization of education and strengthening of online resources for high-quality higher education to secure accessibility in developing countries and minimize knowledge gap.
*UNESCO UNITWIN (University Twinning and Networking) is a program where university from a developed nation form a network with universities of the developing nation to support education and research institutes of these universities. Also to narrow the gap of knowledge and support self-sustainability of the developing nations, founded by UNESCO in 1992. Handong Global University was selected as the First UNITWIN Sponsor University in 2007.
* Besides this, Handong Global University was selected as the First Intern Exchange Agreement University in South Korea with OECD (2008), Sponsoring University of UN ACADEMIC IMPACT (2011), Operating University of the UN Depository Library (2014), and host institution of the UN NGO Conference (2016). Handong opened the UNAI Ban Ki-moon Institute for Global Education (IGE) in 2019, thereby speeding up the drive for internationalization.
