Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) will co-host a Future City: Smart Design for Post-Pandemic World competition from the 1st of this month to the 30th of August.
The Competition is co-hosted by Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh University of Architecture, Ho Chi Minh University of Baekhwa University, Myanmar's Mandalay University of Technology, Sweden's University of Technology, Italy's Milan Institute of Technology, France's Knam University and Australia's Melbourne University.
The contest is expected to draw attention from many college students around the world who dream of becoming a future city planner and architect.The contest will be held under the theme of "New Urban Planning Design to Prevent Post-Corona Era Pendemics," and students participating in the contest will challenge new urban designs that can help prevent and recover from the epidemic based on their unique ideas and creativity, and cope with rapidly changing social problems. College students majoring in urban planning, architecture, and engineering who dream of becoming experts in this field can participate in the contest regardless of their nationality.
In particular, the design competition will be sponsored by four organizations, HTE Global Ltd, Handong E&C (Engineering and Construction), KBeT (Korean Institute of Building Energy Technology), and THE KEY. The prize money is $2500 for the first place, $1500 for the second place, $500 for the third place, and $500 for sponsor selection and $500 for popularity.
The contest will be held from the 1st of this month to the 30th of August, and the finalist will be invited to an international workshop to be held at the Smart City Research Institute of Ho Chi Minh Economic University in Vietnam from September 21 to October 3 to develop the capabilities if urban planners.
The entries for the final contest will be displayed at the same venue as the workshop, and will also be published as a book to showcase new inspirations and fresh ideas for urban planning in the post-Corona era.
A co-host of the contest and a judge at Handong Global University, Seo Deok-soo said, "The city where 70 percent of humanity resides is closely linked to human life. City planning to cope with social problems such as Corona 19 is an essential area for human prosperity and health. I hope this will be a good opportunity for young urban planners to fulfill their dreams.”
Meanwhile, Handong Global University, is Korea's first UNITWIN (University Twinning and Networking) and is leading the way in solving international social problems, promoting sustainable development in developing countries through close networks with various international universities.
Handong Global University will continue to work closely with international universities that co-hosts the design competition to solve social problems in developing countries.
*UNITWIN (University Twining and Networking) was founded by UNESCO in 1992 with the aim of universities in developed countries to help with educational and research institutes in developing countries through networks with universities in developing countries to reduce knowledge gaps and foster self-reliance. In Korea, Handong Global University was designated as the first UNITWIN sponsored university in 2007.
