Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) held the "2020 Summer Building Information Modeling (BIM) Camp" for Handong Global University students from the 14th to 25th.
As part of the joint training program for the UNESCO UNITWIN of Handong Global University, the camp was held as a preparatory training session of BIM camp for Myanmar in the future.
The BIM camp aims to enhance the understanding of the use of rich data, object-oriented and parametric construction digital models, and to establish the information management and decision-making processes in building design and construction.

Professor Ho-Young Kang of Texas A&M, a world-renowned BIM scholar, was the main lecturer in the camp and taught 28 Handong Global University students for 2 weeks through a remote conference program, ZOOM, on how to use BIM for building design and construction plans and furthermore, on how to develop the use of BIM for risk management.
Students who participated in the camp listened to lectures about BIM, and by participating in the Levit and Naviswork workshops, they had the time to present their final results after presenting on individual models, 3D models, 4D models and construction plans.

Regarding the BIM camp, Texas A&M Professor Ho-Young Kang said, "As this is the 5th time of the year, I am pleased to introduce Handong Global University students to the BIM method that is required by the international construction industry. I hope this camp will provide an opportunity for Handong Global University students to advance into the international construction industry."
Goh Kun, a student at Handong Global University's Department of Spatial and Environmental System Engineering, said, "Through this camp, it was a meaningful time to learn how to view various drawings and understand the process of how buildings are built. I started the BIM camp with a simple idea of learning Levit tools, but it was very beneficial to learn 4D modeling skills, 3D modeling and the process of construction or the overall structure.”
Meanwhile, an Handong undergraduate student of Spatial and Environmental System Engineering who participated in the previous BIM camp won the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (Grand Award) and the President of Building Smart Association (Grand Award in architecture area) in 2019 at the BIM Technology Competition 'BIM AWARDS.'
*BIM stands for Building Information Modeling, and it is a subject that emerges rapidly like keywords of machine runnings, AI, ACE (architecture, engineering-civil, urban, construction) industry throughout the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
* UNITWIN (University Twinning and Networking) was established by UNESCO in 1992 with the aim of helping universities in developed countries support education and research institutes in developing countries through forming networks with universities in developing countries. Thereby, reducing knowledge gaps and nurturing self-reliance of developing countries. In South Korea, Handong Global University was designated as the first UNITWIN host university in 2007.
* In addition, Handong Global University is stepping up efforts to promote globalization with being as Korea's first OECD intern dispatch university (2008), UN ACADEMIC IMPACT-sponsored university (2011), UN-sponsored library operation university (2014), UN NGO meeting-sponsored university (2016), and Handong opened the UNAI Ban Ki-moon Global Education Center (2019).
