On the 27th through 31st of July, UNESCO UNITWIN Team of Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) held the Online Design Sprint Camp for young adults of Somang Society in Chad, Africa.
With the COVID-19 situation, where there are difficulties in international travelling and face-to-face education, this camp provided field-based entrepreneurship education to young adults in developing countries, who are interested in start-ups. The camp was conducted using Zoom, an online meeting platform under the purpose of empowering the students' capability in start-up entrepreneurship.
This camp ultimately aims to develop a sustainable business model for the development of the local community by creating a start-up boom and boost the people's interest in start-ups.
It was conducted under the supervision of Professor Sung-Bae Cho (School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, HGU), and 40 local young adults from Somang Society NGO participated in the program.
The participants were educated to select a business item with high potential and lead it to an actual business. For the five days, participants made detailed plans regarding their business items, built prototypes, and conducted user tests.
Also, they conducted team activities to plan business items and build entrepreneurship plans based on the solutions to the problems of the local community.
Geun-Sun Park, branch manager of Chad Somang Society NGO said, "We appreciate the practical entrepreneurship education provided to these Chadian young adults in this time where educational disconnection has arisen as a critical issue. Ultimately, this camp would be a great help in the vitalisation of the community through cultivating regional human resources and launching businesses.
Handong Global University (HGU) with National Program for Excellence in Software has been supporting students' entrepreneurship education by holding 'Design Sprint,' a five-day idea developing method that was invented by Google Ventures. HGU's Design Sprint Camp program is provided not only to domestic universities but also to foreign universities and has become a well-founded alternative to entrepreneurship education.
