Handong Global University holds the 2020 Next Generation Entrepreneurship Training

As part of UNESCO UNITWIN, Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) hosted the Next Generation Entrepreneurship Training (NGET) at the K Hotel in Gyeongju, from August 3rd ~ 7th.

 

6 faculty members (Beom-Ha Ji, Young-Jin Kim, Sang-Hwa Lee, Doo-Hee Jung, Hyegyu Lee and Edward Purnell) from School of Management and Economics, School of Global Entrepreneurship, School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering and School of International Law participated in educating both undergraduate and graduate students from the developing countries about entrepreneurship, technology convergence, finance and marketing, business model development and business ethics.  


Moreover, the program also included projects where participants developed business items, a business plan and conducted presentation competition to increase awareness so that they can contribute to the economic development of developing countries.


In the congratulatory speech, President Soon-Heung Chang remarked, “The objective of this program is to provide education on entrepreneurship which will become essential for sustainable economic development of developing countries. And this will add on to their assets for growth and also will equip future leaders who will continue to contribute to sustainable development in long term effect,” and he added, “I hope this program will be able to strengthen the individual’s assets and the responsibility as global citizens.”  

 

The director of this program, Professor Beom-Ha Ji from HGU remarked, “This program is to encourage entrepreneurship to those who are hoping for economic development and sustainable growth. This program will put them in a perspective that they can take the leading roles in economic growth and equip them with entrepreneurship,” and he added, “Participants will become the leaders that lead the future of developing countries.”

 

Begmatova Dildora, a participant from School of Psychology and Counselling, Class of 2016 said, “Since entrepreneurship is really crucial to solve social problems, I’d like to learn how I can define social problem and solve the problems through NGET.
 

And he said, “Even after I go back to my home country, I want to take part in educating others based on the entrepreneurship I learned.”

 

An undergraduate student, Thami Muna from Nepal (School of Spatial Environment) said, “I wanted to learn about entrepreneurship. I thought this would be an opportunity to experience new entrepreneurship from professors who are professional in this field.”

In this program, undergraduate and graduate students of HGU participated. More than 80 % of participants were either born in developing countries or had experience living there.


It is expected that an in-depth discussion, search for social innovation and global networking will take place through this program.


Through this program, this will be a place of educating global leaders who will take the leading roles for economic development especially during the post-corona era.


Students with good performance in this program will have an opportunity to participate in other UNITWIN projects at partnering institutions in developing countries.

 

*UNITWIN (University Twining and Networking) was a program founded by UNESCO in 1992 with the aim to help developed countries’ network provide and support universities in developing countries with academic and research institutes to help reduce knowledge gaps and foster self-reliance. In Korea, Handong Global University was designated as the leading UNITWIN-sponsored university in 2007.
