Handong Global University hosts Workshop on Research on Fourth Industrial Technology and Educational Cooperation with Malaysian University

- Workshop was held along with UMK of Malaysia to derive solutions for cooperation in Higher Education to adapt in the Fourth Industrial Era.

- Details of the Research on Artificial Intelligence, Human Robotics, Brain-Computer Interface, Augmented Reality etc. were shared.

Handong Global University’s UNESCO UNITWIN Team co-hosted the ‘Workshop on Research & Educational Cooperation based on Fourth Industrial Technology’ from August 17th ~ 19th along with Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) located in Kota Bharu of Malaysia with the purpose of Higher Education Cooperation through the research on new technology and sharing of educational materials.

 

This workshop was held through an online platform due to COVID-19. Seven professors from School of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, and School of Global Entrepreneurship and Information, Communication Technology of Handong Global University (HGU) and four professors from Department of Entrepreneurship and Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Big Data of UMK participated to perform research presentations and discussions on each of the fields of major, along with 35 educational officials from UMK.

 

Professor Jin-Won Ahn, Director of HGU’s UNESCO UNITWIN Team, in the opening remarks said, “With big changes happening in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Higher Education Institutions should offer the students a way forward and goal to reach, in addition to proposing a vision to allow new industrial change to utilize it as an opportunity.” He added, “Through this workshop, we hope to foster growth and close cooperation between the two universities and the two nations in the future as well.”

 

In this workshop, various presentations and discussions were held, including the highlighted topics of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which are AI, Human Robotics, Brain-Interface Computing, Augmented Reality etc. In addtion, in the final debate session, cooperation for the establishment of joint curriculum and student exchange of the two member institution of the UNESCO UNITWIN, solving of educational gap in Kelantan Province of Malaysia through continuous educational cooperation, development of poor areas, educational donation, and discovering of entrepreneur model based on ICT Technology were discussed.

Professor Yoon-Sik Han, comprehensive director of this program said, “In the Fourth Industrial Era where every aspect of life fluctuates, cooperation of the Universities is vital in taking a step forward towards new fields.” He added, “As this workshop is a first event in which the two universities are cooperating together, I hope to see more results of education that will show through the continuous cooperation.”

 

Professor Sabari of UMK said, “Artificial Intelligence can be used as a valuable tool for improving Higher Education.” He added, “Universities, in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, must openly accept new technology and knowledge to improve the quality of education, and this workshop was a valuable time to share each other’s knowledge and foster cooperation between HGU.”

 

HGU, the first host University of UNESCO UNITWIN Program in Republic of Korea and the leader of Higher Education in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, informed that they will lead in solving social problems in Malaysia by strengthening the capacity of Higher Education and relieving the knowledge gap through the cooperation with UMK by continuous cooperation and hosting of the Higher Education Programs.

 

 

*UNESCO UNITWIN (University Twinning and Networking) is a program where university from a developed nation form a network with universities of the developing nation to support education and research institutes of these universities. Also, to narrow the gap of knowledge and support self-sustainability of the developing nations, founded by UNESCO in 1992. Handong Global University was selected as the First UNITWIN Sponsor University in 2007.

 

* Besides this, Handong Global University was selected as the First Intern Exchange Agreement University in South Korea with OECD (2008), Sponsoring University of UN ACADEMIC IMPACT (2011), Operating University of the UN Depository Library (2014), and host institution of the UN NGO Conference (2016). Handong opened the UNAI Ban Ki-moon Institute for Global Education (IGE) in 2019, thereby speeding up the drive for internationalization.
