Handong Global University Successfully Finishes ‘Open Exhibition of Future City Smart Design for Post-COVID Era’

From the 1st of July to the 3rd of October, UNESCO UNITWIN Programme at Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) successfully hosted the ‘Open Exhibition of Future City Smart Design for Post-COVID Era for Students.’


This exhibition was held under the topic of ‘New urban architecture planning design to prevent pandemics in the coming post-corona era.’ It was co-hosted with eight other international educational institutes; three universities from Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology), one university from Myanmar (Mandalay Technological University), one university from Sweden (Blekinge Institute of Technology), one university from Italy (Polytechnic University of Milan), one university from France (National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts; Conservatoire national des arts et métiers), one university from Australia (The University of Melbourne), etc.

 

About fifty teams from six different countries applied, and 24 experts in urban architecture evaluated it to choose the final winner.

The award ceremony of the exhibition was in the order of △A Keynote Speech by Ju-Ho Lee, Former Minister of Education △Announcement of the Winners △Winners’ Speech.


This award ceremony awarded first place ($2,500), second place ($1,500), third place ($500), Sponsors’ Selection, Popularity Award, Honorary Award, etc. under the sponsorship from 4 private institutions of HTE Global Ltd, Handong E&C (Engineering and Construction), and KBeT (Korean Institute of Building Energy Technology).


Team “Neutral Zone” from Vietnam, who won first place from this exhibition, suggested a new model of an eco-friendly neutral city for sustainable urban development, while the “Post-Pandemic Vertical Restaurant” team from the School of Spatial Environment System Engineering at Handong Global University, who won the Sponsors’ Selection, suggested an idea that protects clients from the danger of contagiousness.

 

Professor Deok-Su Seo of Handong Global University, who attended the exhibition as a judge, said, “All the creative ideas suggested by the students at this exhibition are precious references that will be used for the study of a sustainable future city. I believe this exhibition was a valuable experience for students to think in a transformative paradigm about urban space.”
 

The prizewinning works are exhibited at the Institute of Smart Design at the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City, and it will also be published as a book in the future.
