Handong Global University hosts Global Leadership Training with students from Five Universities of the Developing Nations

  • The program was participated by 80 Undergraduate, Graduate Students and Professors from five universities in Cambodia, Indonesia, Mongolia, Nepal, and the Philippines.
  • Special Lectures on Social Innovation examples and Industry was held.

Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang), from October 22nd ~ 23rd, hosted Global Leadership Training Program with the 80 undergraduate, graduate students and professors of the five universities (University of Battabang, Cambodia; Jakarta International University, Indonesia; University of Finance and Economics, Mongolia; Tribhuvan University, Nepal; and University of Assumption, Philippines) using the remote video conferencing software.

 

On the Social Innovation Idea and Entrepreneurship Venture Contest held on October 22nd, the students were able to establish social innovation idea and business plans to solve the social problems of the developing countries.

 

In the contest, students from Handong Global University that suggested cultural art healing platform for patients of Post-Traumatic Stress Disease (PTSD) won the 1st place, while students from Tribhuvan University that suggested plans for the Home Ecological Moss Decoration and Bicycle-Sharing Business won the 2nd place.

 

On October 23rd, conference on research thesis on the topic of capacity strengthening for sustainable development was held.

 

The professors and educational staffs from Philippines, Cambodia, and Nepal that participated in this conference discussed ideas on goal achievement of sustainable development in the post-COVID era, success factor analysis of the local-based social companies, and capacity increasing plan for sustainable development.

 

Also, in the special lectures of the social innovation examples and institutions held on the both days, Director Sun-Kyung Han of Seedot Inc., the social innovation institution hosted a special lecture on the topic of ‘New Role in Social Innovation of Post-COVID-19 era’, while Chairman Hye-Bin Koo of Fab City Cooperative Union hosted a special lecture on the topic of Fab Lab’s activity on actualizing and launching ideas through various digital creation tools’.

Professor Ki-Sun Yoo of Handong Global University that planned this program said, “I hope that the students and professors of the developing nations will earn new insights through this program, and that the ideas of the students will bear fruit.” He added, “In the era of online situation, I hope that the cooperation with the developing nations for the improvement of higher education would continue.”

 

Mr. Dexter Valajadia, Vice President of the University of Assumption, Philippines, said, “Through Global Leadership Training Program, we were able to reflect on social issues and seek solutions for them.” He added, “We are thankful for this special opportunity in being able to ponder upon social innovation.”

 

Handong Global University continues to foster capacity development of the developing nations through online activities, such as online lectures, despite the limitations of offline activity with the universities and the governments of developing countries due to COVID-19.

 

In addition, Handong Global University will accelerate towards the digitalization of education, strengthening of online resources, etc., to secure accessibility of high-quality higher education in the developing nations and to decrease the gap of knowledge.

*UNESCO UNITWIN (University Twinning and Networking) is a program where university from a developed nation form a network with universities of the developing nation to support education and research institutes of these universities. Also, to narrow the gap of knowledge and support self-sustainability of the developing nations, founded by UNESCO in 1992. Handong Global University was selected as the First UNITWIN Sponsor University in 2007.

 

* Besides this, Handong Global University was selected as the First Intern Exchange Agreement University in South Korea with OECD (2008), Sponsoring University of UN ACADEMIC IMPACT (2011), Operating University of the UN Depository Library (2014), and host institution of the UN NGO Conference (2016). Handong opened the UNAI Ban Ki-moon Institute for Global Education (IGE) in 2019, thereby speeding up the drive for internationalization.
