Handong Global University Hosted Handong International Development Cooperation Conference for the Public Officials of Developing Countries

- Public officials from Asia, Africa, and Latin America presented theses, concerning the current developing plans and solutions to the problems of developing countries.

 

Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) hosted the Handong International Development Cooperation Conference in Gyeong-Ju on the 9th of November, to increase understandings and interests over Asian, African, and Latin American areas.

 

Nine public officials from developing countries presented research theses and had discussions, providing the existing development plans, and striving to find solutions to problems in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

 

Professor Su-Yeong Chang, the Department of Industrial Engineering of Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Hyun-Seok Oh, the Department of International Trade of Keimyung University, Jin-Won Ahn, Dean of Policy and Planning of Handong Global University, and Dae-Sik Kim, Honorary Professor of Handong Global University attended as discussion panels to criticise and suggest solutions to the presenters.

(Photo 2) Lewis Nzuki from Kenya, who is presenting under the topic of “Introduction of IoT Technology of Mango Value Chain to Minimise Damages in Cultivation.”

 

Martins Adenokun, a graduate student with the background of being a Nigerian public official presented the thesis on reinforcing public officials’ participation in Nigerian digital economy using mobile technology, and this drew the attention of the people.

 

Dae-Sik Kim, honorary professor of Handong Global University said, “We were able to see that the presenter though in-depth to solve the Nigerian government’s problem. I hope Nigerian digital economy using mobile technology would become true in the near future.

 

Kemar Andrew Whitaker, a public official from Jamaica, had a critical mind over his country’s electricity theft situation. He presented his thesis over electricity theft monitoring system using decision-making tree classifier to make an improvement over the issue. 

 

Su-Young Chang, a professor at POSTECH said, “If you use the electricity theft monitoring system using decision-making tree classifier, you can effectively detect electricity theft by improving the energy quality with low production cost. I hope the realisation of the system may solve the social issue of electricity theft in Jamaica.”

 

Brenda Nakanzako, a graduate student from Uganda, who participated in this event said “It was meaningful that each public official from developing countries find the problems, that their countries are facing and explore the solutions to it. It was also a fruitful time that we were able to listen to criticism, and realistic feedbacks of the faculty members who attended as panels.”
