Handong Global University(President Chang)’s artificial intelligence, solving the problem for low birthrate and aging problem, Global Legislative Education Research Center was finally selected as the “4^th Stage  BK21 (Brain Korea 21) project hosted by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Research Foundation.

Handong Global University has been selected for two 4^th stage BK21’ education research group (artificial intelligence, solving the problem of low birthrate and aging) and one education research team (global legislation) to solve the social problems through artificial intelligence and advanced technology.

Kim, In-Jung, Director of Education Research Center of artificial intelligence in Handong Global University stated “It is our plan to make a university that can solve and learn through the problems of our neighbor and to have a virtuous cycle of industry-academia.

Meanwhile, professors who is experts in the field of artificial intelligence and based on the artificial intelligence curriculum and performance in Handong Global University, has first started deep learning research in 2012 and has been put to practical use in video audio natural language processing, data analysis, prediction, smart factory and medical image analysis. 

Especially, developed the world’s first deep leaning based T-commerce broadcasting system and won the Minister of Science and Technology Information and Communication Award. Furthermore, released the first open source deep learning framework (WICWIU) among the universities in Korea and was awarded the best best paper award for two consecutive years and developed a deep learning based Korean-English translator and is provided on the Internet.

In addition, Handong Global University has been officially designated as a cooperative university in the field of artificial intelligence with POSCO and Pohang Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (RIST) and is actively conducting industry -academia cooperation.

In the future, Handong Global University will expand the software-oriented university extension project (2021-2022) selected in 2017 and the 2^nd stage softerware-oriented university support project (also known as ‘AI·SW centered university support project’) that will continue for 6 years. It plans to further strengthen AI education, research, and industry-academia capabilities.
