On the 17th of December 2020, Handong Global University (Soon-Heung Chang as the President) Life Science Lab was selected as the winner of the Innovative Science Technology to Solve Human Conundrum Contest hosted by the Circle Foundation (Former. Chul-soo Ahn Foundation). The task was to develop a medical treatment against the organism that causes refractory infection (supervised by Jin-Hwan Gwak, the professor of the School of Life Science).
HGU Life Science Lab will perform the task, aiming to assess the effectiveness of extracted biotherapeutic candidates that may be used for the medical treatments of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). CDI is known as the main causative organism of refractory infection.
Professor Jin-Hwan Gwak of the School of Life Science said, "I am very delighted for being selected for the Innovative Science Technology Solution Contest to solve significant problems in climate, environment and eco-system, energy, and public health areas. We will put our utmost effort in this research to develop a medical treatment of refractory infection so that this may be a good opportunity to practise love towards our neighbours.”
The Circle Foundation also held the Innovative Science Project Agreement Ceremony on the same day with six institutions that were selected at the contest, including Soon-Heung Chang, the President of Handong Global University, who was also the panel and the head judge at the Circle Foundation.
