The research result was from the Young-Nam region academic research team of the 59th National Undergraduate Symposium on Biology. This team included undergraduates of Handong Global University (Soon-Heung Chang as the President) Life Science Department as the center. They published it in the 'Environmental Research,' an international academic journal.
National Undergraduate Symposium on Biology is an undergraduate-led event with 60 years of history. In 2020, the 59th Symposium was hosted under the topic of "Virus" considering the COVID-19 pandemic era.
This Symposium was operated in 6 different regions in the country, including the Young-Nam region. The Young-Nam region, led by Jae-Won Kim, the undergraduate of the School of Life Science, Handong Global University, had their symposium under the topic of 'infectious diseases.'
For the thesis, Sarang Kim, Jae-Won Kim, Hye-Eun Park, Woo-Seok Byun, Su-Ji Lee, Gun-Hee Cho, Shin-Woo Heo, the students of the School of Life Science, Handong Global University; and Jae-Hyun Baek, the professor of the School of Life Science of Handong Global University, participated as the corresponding author.
Jae-Hyun Baek, a Professor at the School of Life Science of Handong Global University, who also participated as the corresponding author for this thesis, said, "This thesis has two major implications. First is that we confirmed the reality of the seasonality of COVID-19, which has been debated, and reported it to the academic society. The second is that the undergraduate students of the HGU Life Science department revealed their independent, and proactive competency in research."
The Journal 'Environmental Research' is an international academic journal in the area of 'environmental & occupational health,' with an Impact factor of 5.715; evaluated as a top 10% journal in the area.
