(Picture 1) Students of Handong Global University promoting the ‘119 Hero of Handong’ Blood Donation Campaign

Handong Global University (President Soon-Heung Chang) launched a Blood Donation Campaign titled ‘119 Hero of Handong’ from March 31^st to April 1^st to help an undergraduate student from Ecuador suffering from Acute Skin Muscle Inflammation and Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia and receiving plasma exchanges.

This campaign was conducted with cooperation from the Ulsan Branch of Korea Red Cross Blood Services. The campaign succeeded in having over 80 students participate in the blood donation and received 222 donation cards. One student donated 30 blood donation cards that he saved up.

As a part of this campaign, Handong Global University ran its own fundraising event and received donations from not only Handong Global University students, but also various organizations including the Handong International Congregation and Pohang Calvary Baptist Church.

Angela Lim, a student from the South American Community that cared for the Ecuadoran student while taking online classes for 3 weeks, said, “I knew the hardship of being sick overseas, so I wanted to help my friend.” She added, “I am thankful to be able to do something for my friend, and also thankful to the Handong Global University Community that came together to help with one heart.”

A staff member of the Office of International Affairs of Handong Global University that planned this event said, “We are thankful to see students, professors, and staff members all becoming one to help an international student in various ways.” They added, “We could feel the heart of the Handong Global University community after seeing people donate blood donation cards even after the event, an example of practicing love towards our neighbors coming to reality.”
