On the 26th, Handong Global University (President Do Soung Choi) held the ‘Festival of Nations’ (formerly know as the Culture Night) at Hyoam Chapel. The International Student Union (ISU) , a community of foreign students enrolled in our university, played a central role in presenting the unique culture of each country through dance, song, and various performances. This event, which started in 2011, has become a unique global cultural event of Handong Global University.
The theme of this event was ‘Celebrating Diversity’, and foreign students from various backgrounds gathered to discover and celebrate the beauty of different cultures. It was held with 11 cultural performances representing Germany, Mongolia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, China, as well as Africa, Central Asia, Latin America, and South Asia. After the performance, a Love Feast event was held to treat a warm dinner to international students studying abroad away from their families. Also, through the support of churches, local communities in Pohang and the service of Daegu Parent Prayer Meeting, the event was added with warmth and care.
Sherwin (‘21, Indonesia), president of the International Student Union (ISU), said, “It was an event to celebrate the diversity of the 11 communities of Handong Campus. I was able to experience the various cultures of the world in one place.”
President Do Soung Choi of Handong Global University said, “I hope that international students would consider Handong as their hometown, and I sincerely thank the parents who prepare foods for international students every year and serve them with love.”
About 250 international students from 50 countries are enrolled in Handong Global University, and in all major courses, the programs for internationalization are operated. Also, through UNAI Global Education institute, a specialized organization in global citizenship education, provides a variety of educational courses to strengthen global competencies.
