On December 22, a student team from Handong Global University (President Do Soung Choi) received the Minister of Foreign Affairs Award at the 1st African Awareness Contribution Contest at the Sarangje of the National Assembly.
Co-hosted by the Korea-Africa Foundation, the African New Era Forum of National Assembly, Korea-Africa Parliamentary Diplomatic Forum, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this contest aims to change social awareness and spread empathy through creative content that can contribute to improving awareness and image of Africa. The “Ubuntu” team, led by Professor Doo Pil Kang of Handong Global University, won the Minister of Foreign Affairs Award in recognition of its high creativity, social message, and impact on the community.
The Ubuntu team composed of undergraduate students of Handong Global University’s School of Communication Arts and School of Management and Economics (Jina Park, Joo Seong Song, Ga Eun Lee, and Da Eun Jeong) composed and wrote the song titled ‘Every Color in Africa’ and collaborated with students from the African community within the university. This accomplishment was achieved by making a music video in association with students from the United African University of Tanzania (UAUT), as well as students with experience living in Africa.
Da Eun Jeong, who was in charge of writing and composing the music for the contest, said, “Through conversations with my African friends, I realized that we all looked at the great continent of Africa with colored glasses. I wanted to help everyone get rid of the colored glasses of prejudice.”
