Handong Global University (President Do-Soung Choi) held the ‘Next Generation Entrepreneurship Training (NGET)’ program at Souphanouvong University in Laos from February 13th to 17th as part of the UNESCO UNITWIN project.
This event was held for about 34 faculties and students from Souphanouvong University in Laos. 3 professors (Hyeon Mo Sung, Beom Ha Ji, Hye Gyu Lee) belonging to the Department of Management and Economics at Handong Global University participated as lecturers, and 6 undergraduate students (Hamin Park, Yeeun Baek, Heeseong Seo, Jaesun Yoo, Sieun Lim, Yewon Jin) of Handong Global University joined as teaching assistants. For a total of 4 days, education such as entrepreneurship, finance and accounting, and business model workshops were provided, and final presentations were made to participants.
This is not the first time that Handong Global University and Souphanouvong University have met. In 2021, NGET was held online in the aftermath of Covid-19. Also, this event is of great significance because for the first time after Covid-19 outbreak, faculties and students of Handong Global University visited and educated members of Souphanouvong University in person and have built close cooperation with the local community. Si-Anouvong Savatvong, who is serving as the Vice-President of Souphanouvong University, said, “We hope that the relationship between the two schools will strengthen and continue to improve the capabilities of faculties and students through ongoing educational programs to contribute to the development of Laos.”

Philavanh Xayoudom, a student of the Department of Business and Tourism who participated in the program, said, “What I learned in training helped me broaden my horizons, and the experience of coordinating in the midst of different opinions to build a business model was especially helpful.” Hamin Park (Global Management and Design), an undergraduate student who participated as the same team, said, “I didn’t know that the difference between countries could have such a big impact. Developing entrepreneurial products together is learning to be considerate, and greater possibilities will open up if students of Laos are provided with a broader, geographic, technological, and social background with the passion they show.”
UNESCO UNITWIN (UNITWIN, UNIversity, TWInning, and Networking) was established by UNESCO in 1992 for the purpose of reducing the knowledge gap and fostering self-reliance in developing countries by the educational method of supporting university and research institutions in developed countries through a network between developed and developing countries’ universities. In Korea, Handong Global University was designated as the first UNITWIN host university in 2007.
In addition to this, Handong Global University is accelerating the promotion of internationalization through various ways. It was designated as the first OECD intern dispatch university in Korea (2008), recognized as the host university of the UN Academic Impact, and named as UN depository library operating university. Also, it was acknowledged as a host university for UN NGO meeting (2016) and opening of UNAI Ban Ki Moon Institute for Global Education was followed. (2019).
