Handong Global University (President Do-Soung Choi) held the <Handong Perspective & Issues Conference 2023 Winter> on February 3rd under the theme of ‘ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) and University’. This event, hosted by the Handong Institute of Academics and Faith, had time to discuss each topic with a multidisciplinary approach by scholars of various majors on the subject of ESG.
Starting with the keynote lecture titled Theological Reflection on ESG by Professor Hoi Kwon Kim of the Department of Christian Studies at Soongsil University, the conference was led with 6 different topics in order of following lectures: Ambiguity in ESG Evaluation for Businesses and Alternatives: Focusing on Social Impact (Professor Kyu Bong Cho, Department of Management and Economics, Handong Global University), Governance and Uncertainty of Korea’s International Development NGO (Professor Jun Hyup Kim, Department of International Studies, Language, and Literature, Handong Global University), Accounting Perspective on ESG- Focusing on E (Professor Keun Bae Jang, Department of Management and Economics, Handong Global University), An Engineer’s Perspective on ESG Issues (Professor Kyung Hoon Chang, Department of Electronic Engineering, Kookmin University), ESG Factors: Road to Progress or Kicking Down the Ladder ? (Professor Dongchun Shin, Handong International Law School), Christian University and ESG Start-Up Education (Professor Kang Lee, Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, Handong Global University.

Professor Sang Heon Yoon (Department of International Studies, Language, and Literature), Director of the Handong Institute of Academic and Faith, who planned the 2023 Winter Conference, said, “This academic event opened a forum for presentations and discussions by scholars of various majors, and provided a platform for ESG-related issues from an integrated perspective based on the Bible. It was a good opportunity to look at major issues, and it is meaningful as the beginning of discussions on environmental issues, social inequality issues, and governance in our society as a whole, not only at the corporate management level, but also at a macro level.”
At the ESG Startup Hub Vision Declaration Ceremony in August last year, Handong University announced its vision to create a global startup ecosystem through its network and establish itself as a hub for ESG startups through close cooperation with local governments, companies and universities.
