(Picture 1) 2023 Handong Revival Meeting x 24 Hour Worship Service

Last Friday, the 26^th, Handong Global University (President Dosoung Choi) organized the “Handong Revival X 24-Hour Worship' Service in Hyoam Chapel. Through 24 hours of lasting worship, communities came together as one to declare the sovereignty of God and the presence of Jesus once again, praying for Handong to recall and recover its identity as a Christian university. Members from different generations like students, parents, staff, children, and the elderly on the site made this meeting more meaningful.

Handong’s 24-Hour worship has been a common occurrence. As can be seen from ’24-Hour Service for North Korea’, ’48-Hour Service for Korea’s Salvation, ’24-Hour Joint Worship Service’, and '24-Hour Prayer for the Unification and Recovery of the Korean Peninsula', students have been volunteering to gather to pray for their community faith’s unity and recovery since before Covid.

Starting from ordinary chapel worship, a revival centered around the next generation is spreading across the globe. In February, students of Asbury stayed praying overnight after the chapel worship which grew to be a two-week relay prayer. This eccentric phenomenon has created a huge sensation in the United States and the world, leading to a powerful revival. What’s surprising is that Generation Z, statistically the strongest generation against Bible evangelization, took the key role. Handong Global University also led the revival with 22 teams including the Student Government (WITH) and 178 youth communities playing the central role.

SeungHyuk Cha (Director of the Faith Department) from Handong Student Government, who was responsible for the worship, has commented, “I am part of the generation that experienced the values of Handong through my seniors’ love towards us and praying together in the playground during the earthquake despite being scared. I hope to restore Handong's identity as a Christian university, and experience the true unity of communities”.
