Handong Global University collaborates with Gyeongsangbuk-do and Ulleung County to jointly promote the "Ulleung County Global U-City" project.

On the 12th of last month, Handong Global University, in the presence of President Dosoung Choi, Governor Cheol-Woo Lee of Gyeongsangbuk-do, the Mayor Han Kwon Nam of Ulleung County, and Do Hyun Kim, the principal of Ulleung High School, among more than 150 attendees, signed a business agreement for the promotion of the "Ulleung County Global U-City" project at the Ulleung County Agricultural Cooperative Hall.

The main contents of the agreement include: Supporting the development of region-specific talents required in the local community and industries, as well as attracting businesses and institutions based on global green industries, fostering high-quality local industry talents through collaborative education and tailored education programs, including joint practical training with universities, establishing an educational foundation for discovering region-specific industries and cultivating innovative talents to meet the demands of the industry, along with administrative and financial support to enhance the conditions for local development

Handong Global University was selected as a UNESCO UNITWIN University in 2007 and has gained a reputation for its specialized international education, practicing educational ODA, and global citizenship education. Students have demonstrated various achievements in global settings through opportunities such as OECD internships and overseas volunteering activities, leveraging the university's global network. Through the recent agreement, Handong University has committed to actively supporting and closely collaborating with Ulleung County to take a further leap towards becoming a global U-City, utilizing its capabilities as a university.

President Dosoung Choi stated, "Handong Global University will pursue the 'Ulleung Green Island Project,' which aims to contribute to the development of green industries, as well as education, culture, and overall societal progress in Ulleung County, by establishing the (tentatively named) 'Ulleung Handong Campus' on Ulleung Island. Additionally, we plan to implement a 'Regional Innovation Concentrated Semester' at this campus, where both domestic and international students of Handong Global University can attend classes while actively participating in solving local issues in Ulleung County. Leveraging our well-established global network, we will strive to attract more foreign visitors to Ulleung Island and promote its beauty to the world."
