President Dosoung Choi of Handong Global University and the UNITWIN team visited the Tashkent region in Uzbekistan to meet with key officials and decided to contribute to the economic development through nurturing the next-generation talent.
On June 26th, Handong Global University, in collaboration with the Banking and Finance Academy of Uzbekistan, organized a conference on the topic of "Digital Transformation in Banking and Finance." Korean representatives included Professor Kyu-Bong Cho from Handong Global University, Professor Young Seok Park from Sogang University, and Professor Jong Woon Kim from Hannam University and from Uzbekistan, Professor Abdulla Ibragimov, Professor Samariddin Elmirzaev, and Professor Anvar Tursunov joined as presenters. The conference addressed the challenges and opportunities arising from the digital revolution in the financial industry, attracting over 120 local graduate students and higher education officials who attended and made significant contributions to the event.

Following the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Kuchkarov, President Dosoung Choi of Handong Global University agreed to jointly organize an ESG conference with the National Graduate School of Business and Entrepreneurship, with which they have been collaborating on talent cultivation for Uzbekistan's economic development since 2014. Deputy Prime Minister Kuchkarov expressed full support for the purpose of the event and promised to provide necessary assistance. Subsequently, President Choi also met with Deputy Governor Abhor Turdaliev of the Central Bank to discuss the role of the central bank, monetary policy operations, and the broad range of opinions on talent cultivation required for the financial industry. Both institutions confirmed their commitment to ongoing collaboration.
During their visit, President Dosoung Choi had a meeting with Members of the Uzbekistan National Assembly, Nodir Jumaev and Park Viktor. They also had a chance to watch a video about the forced migration of Koreans in 1937 at the Korean Cultural Center in Tashkent, followed by listening to a song sung by Singalina, expressing the hope for the reunification of Koreans. President Dosoung Choi was deeply moved by the video and song, which portrayed the history of Korean immigrants settling with the help of Uzbek people. He expressed his gratitude towards the Uzbek people for their support in enabling the settlement of Korean compatriots and stated that Handong Global University would actively support Uzbekistan's higher education institutions as an educational institution, laying the foundation for mutual prosperity between the two countries.

UNITWIN (UNIversity TWInning and Networking) is a program created by UNESCO in 1992 to help universities in developing countries reduce knowledge gaps and develop their independence through networks with universities in developed countries. In Korea, Handong Global University was designated as the first UNITWIN-hosted university in 2007.
Handong Global University's UNITWIN program is part of the Ministry of Education's ODA project. It focuses on low-income countries classified by the World Bank, with an emphasis on government priority partner countries. Through the program, Handong Global University has signed agreements with universities in developing countries to enhance the universities' capabilities and carry out activities such as leadership development programs and regional development projects. Additionally, the program has established regional hub centers within developing countries.
