On the 20th, Handong Global University (President Dosoung Choi) conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for Genesis Lab, a specialized space for ESG startups, on its campus.
Genesis Lab is a specialized space supporting technological innovation and related businesses in the ESG field, providing an innovative entrepreneurial environment where startups, research, education, and culture are integrated. In August of last year, Handong Global University demonstrated concrete steps by holding a vision ceremony with Pohang City to leap forward as an ESG startup hub. They also established a Carbon Neutrality Support Center and signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of human resources in the secondary battery industry.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, President Dosoung Choi of Handong Global University, Chairman Jae Hoon Lee, Deputy Mayor Namil Kim of Pohang City, and Chairman In Gyu Baek of the Pohang City Council, along with key figures from Pohang City, and universities including POSTECH, Pohang University, and Sunlin University, gathered to grace the occasion.

President Dosoung Choi of Handong Global University stated in his congratulatory speech, "Genesis Lab represents the initial stride towards establishing the ESG startup innovation park that Handong Global University envisions for the future. I trust that ESG startups, dedicated to the preservation of humanity, environment, and the world, will leverage this space as a catalyst to forge unprecedented solutions."
Deputy Mayor Namil Kim of Pohang City stated, "The only way to catch two rabbits, climate change and local extinction, is through ESG management with young people. Going forward, I will do my best to accompany this journey with Pohang City, Handong Global University, and the universities present here today."
Handong Global University was designated as a pre-selected university for the Glocal University 30 Project in June, amid population decline and regional extinction crises, to discover successful models of regional growth through university innovation. Handon Global University presented a next-generation university innovation model that breaks down boundaries between majors and departments, between regions and schools, and between domestic and international, and announced plans to establish the ESG Pohang Cluster to create a sustainable ESG innovation business ecosystem through a press conference."
